Review: The Robber Knight

The Robber Knight The Robber Knight by Robert Thier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Robber Knight (The Robber Knight Saga, #1) by Robert Thier

My very first medieval story and I loved it. It was completely fun and breathtakingly humorous.

CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

The story is about Ayla (the daughter of a Lord) and Ruben (a thief).

Ayla is this super awesome, feisty, stubborn and sharp-tounged girl, who rules the land on behalf of her ill father. One very fine day, Lord Something threatens to wage war on the land if she does not marry him. She very bravely/stupidly says no.

As she comes back from warning the peasants in the suburbs of her land, she is robbed by a Knight in Red armor (Ruben).

The same night, she finds a terribly injured man who seems to have fought and killed the enemy soldiers. She takes him back to her castle where she tends to him, not knowing he is the Robber Knight.

As the battle progresses so does Ayla and Ruben's affection. He lies about his identity, knowing she will hang him for his crimes.

His true identity is a mystery, but since desperate times calls for desperate measures, she chooses to believe his lies and takes battle advises from him.

The book is about how the ruthless and blood-thirsty Ruben falls for the feisty and stubborn Ayla.

The characters are very comical and will make you laugh. And along with the so many other medieval information, the book is interesting and intriguing to say the least.

As far as I know there are 2 more books in this series:
Book 2: Robber Knight's Love
Book 3: Robber Knight's Secret

Both of these books can be read on Wattpad.

Review: Montana Sky

Montana Sky Montana Sky by Nora Roberts
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I never get tired of saying this, but this was one other of Nora Roberts' best books. I would give this book 6 stars if that were possible.

This book is definitely a must-read for all this Nora Roberts fans out there and those who love romantic-thrillers.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

This books makes you experience all the emotions, one can muster, in every page of the book and does not let you put down until you are done with it. And even then the the book smothers your senses with its one-of-a-kind residue.

To put it in a few simple word, this book is about 3 half-sisters, who have never met before who deal with the death of the father they share and hate in their own same way.

One of them is a Hollywood gal (Tess), one of them (Lilly) on the run from her abusive husband and the last (Willa), grew up on the ranch she's desperately trying to keep as her home.

The catch- All the sisters must live together on the ranch for a year to get their respective inheritance.

One thing the Mercy Sisters have in common is strong character and stubbornness.

Tess, the oldest, wants the money and wants resume the Hollywood career she put on hold. To her, it's the compensation for the years of struggle her mother went through to raise her and for being ignored by her own father.

Lilly, the second eldest, is on the run from her abusive husband who is out to get her. All she wants is a safe-place and the inheritance would just be a bonus. She is soft, caring and plays as the mediator between the other two headstrong sisters.

Willa, the last, is a headstrong female, who tried to prove to her ignorant father her worth. She feels betrayed by her father when, she who has worked all life for the ranch, may not be hers, and that she is being treated the same as that of her other sisters who have never been there.

The book is about the 12 months they live together, getting past their differences, learning to love each other and finding beauty in what they once disliked . And along the way they find their own love of their lives.

The unusual murderers [from the gutted cattle to the sodomized girl] brings them all together in ways only bad experiences do, and keeps you up at night guessing who it might be.

It was a pretty long book, but not long enough for me to put it down.

Miss Roberts had portrayed elegantly the uniqueness of each of their characters and how their respective male-counters (Nate, Adam and Ben) compliment each of them beautifully and perfectly.

This book has it all, family, friendship, romance that is tied together neatly with the perfect murder mystery to solve.

In the end, the book will leave you breathless with happiness and contentment. I considered this as one of the most perfect Happily Ever Afters.

Review: Sinful

Sinful Sinful by Sharon Page
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It was a good novella, but had the potential to become an even better novel.

The fact is, the story was too short and there wasn't enough time to relate pr get to know the characters.

I have always enjoyed Miss Page's books. her character's are well-built and have potential. This was a very quick read and I finished this in like 2 hours.

I like books I can connect with, laugh and cry with. But, this unfortunately was not one of those.

The plot itself was very good. But was rushed. The best thing I have always liked about Miss Page is that, her secondary characters are almost as good as her primary ones. But this book hardly shed some light to them.

Sally and Lyan have a kid(Rose). Wouldn't you expect her to atleast to make some appearance in the book? Nope. Rose is completely out of the story. She was given even less importance than a secondary character. I expected Cavell to be more of a problem and Nick Swann just popped out of nowhere.

Lyan was just too forgiving for having the reputation of being an intimidating Bow Street Runner (something like a cop).

I just wanted more.

In my humble opinion this should have been made into a novell.

Review: Engaged in Sin

Engaged in Sin Engaged in Sin by Sharon Page
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Miss Page has once again proved to be one of the best erotic-romance writers.

                     CONTAINS SPOILERS

I must say this book wasn't as sexually intimidating as some of her other books like Sin. It was emotional, thrilling and wonderfully put together.

This book follows the story of Anne, forced to turn to prostitution due to circumstances, and on the run from a false accusation of murder. She tries to seduce the Duke of March into keeping her as his Mistress until she is able to earn enough money to leave England.

I was apprehensive when I first started the book. But as I read, I realized it was simply beautiful.

Anne is a strong, albeit, a broken woman who is in desperate search of some security. She does not have false notions of some knight in shiny white armor and relies on herself to achieve all the security she wants.

The Duke is blind and wallows in self-pity for quite some time of the book. I like it that, the Duke is not shown as a powerful, arrogant hero who just sweeps her off her feet. He is genuinely broken by war, has nightmares, and hates the fact that he has to rely on somebody to even walk without. He has temper tantrums and refuses to see his family because he is ashamed. Anne helps him to come out of his own shell.

This again isn't one of those books where they both desperately fall in love in the third chapter. She becomes his mistress and stays as one for a long time. All he feels is a fierce sense of protection and thankfulness towards her.

There were 3 things I found disconcerting.

The first - In the beginning of the book she is shown as a very insecure, desperate and a pitiable creature and suddenly when the duke's sister goes into labor, she is shown to possess enormous courage and presence of mind, even if it is said she had witnessed her mother had assist in childbirths, she herself has never done before and for a person who hasn't. And after that she is continued to be shown as a very fierce character.

The second - I expected more fury and mistrust from the duke when he found out about her lies and betrayal. But he did not and rushes to save her. I am not sure whether to find this sweet or a flaw in the book.

The third - I found it quite unbelieving and unnecessary for Anne's long lost great-grandmother to suddenly come out of nowhere ans stake a claim on her. The move was justified form all angles and I even found it nice. Bit, it just seemed unnecessary and the story would have gone great without its addition. Moreover, in the end it was not clear on whether she was announced to be the great-and-the-only-grand-daughter of the very powerful Countess Something.

And it was quite long.

Apart from these, the story moved very nicely. And apart from the romance there was the mystery of the actual murderer, and so many other side thrillers that gave the book more depth.

All the secondary characters seemed very original. I loved the duke's mother the best. She was a strong character and played a major role, along with the duke's sisters', in bringing both of them together.

Once again Miss page has proven to be the best, but not the best of her works.

Crushes And Heartbreaks...

Rarely has high school been graduated without crushes or heartbreaks. At some point in life all of us have faced this hardship.  All of us have had the one we had admired from afar, one we hated outright but crushed on, one we might have dated, dumped or just mutually broken up with.

Then there are those of us who have best friends we wished they were more, and not had to witness them flitting from one relationship to another.

Any red-blooded human being would have gone through any one, if not all, of this at some point in their life.  And so did Shraxis. Except that it was her almost-playboy bestie, had followed her to college to.

Just when she thought she did not have to feel the heartbreak again, she came to know that her bestie, Manan, materialized saying ‘Surprise’.

For days she was fretting about how she would have to endure the tortures once again and not be able to tell him about how much Shraxis liked Manan.

The question most girls ask and, so do I, how do we read guys? How do we girls know whether the boys like us or like like or just plain old hate us but pretend to tolerate, was the million dollar question.

This was Shraxis’ problem; ‘ I like Manan, I like like him, but I don’t really want to date him because  his  girlfriends’ don’t last more than 6 months, and I don’t want him to be one of them. I don’t want see him date anyone either, but that will surely happen.  Should I date other guys? Will I offend him if I do?’

Her words.

So tell me what should be done? Should she confront him or pretend to be okay with what they have now?

Review: The Perfect Rake

The Perfect Rake The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One word AWESOME!!

My God this was one hell of a good book. Miss Gracie is a genius. I am not kidding.

I was laughing my girly parts off most of the time when I reading this book. It was awesome!!!

Prudence was this absolutely responsible, loyal, sometimes even uptight, kinda person who takes care of her 4 sisters like a mother, comforting and protecting them from her manic-evil grandfather. She is just selfless in thinking only of her sisters' happiness as she gently persuades them to do what should be done even when they seem risky.

You just have to love Prudence for her absolute crazy ideas that only worked because of Gideon.

And Gideon was just ah!!!!!!

Gideon is the perfect rake, or in the modern world a millionaire playboy that will simply charm the panties off you. You can't help but laugh at the antics and it's just adorable when he realises that he is in love with Prudence [when rakes fall, they fall hard].

It was heart breaking to read Gideon's back story. It was a miracle he did not go bitter and hate life. And it was even more sad to learn about Prudence's secret. So many annoying things [ like why she was so loyal to that loser Phillip, even though she was in love with Gideon, etc.,] she made sense.

After everything was revealed. Gideon and Prudence just seemed so much more perfect together.

Frankly, Prudence's sisters just annoyed me. They were mostly just self-centred, annoying girls who just practically said 'Prudence will take care of everything, so let's not waste time worrying about how we are going to survive. That's Prudence's job'.

All the secondary characters were very well built. They all had major roles in the story and were an integral part of the story. Even, the loser Phillip, who in my opinion, deserves to burn in hell.

I did not expect the bits of thrill in this book. I thought, it would only be romance and all, but there were some pretty good twists and turns that will keep you reading [ Trust me, I was reading this book the day before my exam and couldn't put it down until I finished] .

This is the first book of Miss Gracie's I am reading and it was one of the best books I have read.

Review: Pleasure Unbound

Pleasure Unbound Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Pleasure Unbound

It was a great paranormal romance. Miss Ione had done a great job of making a serious plot quite amusing and fun to read.

SPOILER ALERT

This book is about an incubus demom (sex-demon), who is a also a doctor (running his own demon-speciality hospital), who also happens to loath demon hunters, and eventually falls for a demon hunter, who later realizes she is a part demon too, her father being the her mother's murderer.

It is a book that is bound to make you laugh.

With the spunky, feisty and stubborn, to the point of annoying, Tayla (the kickass demon hunter), who end in the demon-hospital, eventually under Eidolon's (the demon-doctor) care.

For very long they both struggle in a hate-but-attracted relationship (hate mostly on Tayla's since she is a demon hunter and also since a demon killed her mother). The book eventually brings in more serious stuff  [from the vote on how to kill Tayla and Eidolon not able to control his libido to whether the hunters are killing the innocent demons ans whether Eidolon is going to turn into a killing-raping machine after his transformation]

The best part of the book is Eidolon's character. Miss Ione has done a fabulous job of painting him. He is the perfect doctor/demon/sex machine. He is has the patience only doctors can acquire which perfectly balances Tayla's absolute wacky-ness. It's very amusing!!

As the book progresses, so does Tayla's and Eidolon's relationship, especially after Eidolon tells her that she is part demon.

The book has it's share of confusions with so many different kinds of demons, vampires, warewolves, etc,. Its bound to take you to parallel world.

The secondary characters (Eidiolon,s brother's and his hospital demon-associates) in the book also have been given a lot of importance since the series I infer that the series continue with their individual stories.

The book is joyfully gory and romantically pleasing with is share of steamy scenes. Its a book that's worth a read at night (no nightmares, I promise).

Review: The Billionaire's Counterfeit Girlfriend

The Billionaire's Counterfeit Girlfriend The Billionaire's Counterfeit Girlfriend by Nadia Lee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Billionaire's Counterfeit Girlfriend (The Pryce Family, #1) by Nadia Lee

It was a really good book. It was fun to read and a good romance.

It's the second book of Miss Lee's I am reading. I loved this so much better than the other one.

I especially loved how realistic the author made the protagonists. I loved how very imperfect they both were and how ultimately they both learnt to let go of their fears and go after their hearts.

It wasn't one of those sappy romance novels where they both fell in love at first sight and got married in the next page. They both had their ups and downs. Both affected by their parents' choices.

Like I said it was a good read, but there was something missing. I found the plot little lacking. I know it's a romance novel and I enjoyed tremendously, but a person who prefers romantic thrillers to full fledged romance, I wished there was just more.

I loved how all the secondary characters were built. Miss Lee made all the right emotions come out for the right person. (view spoiler)

There were a few places that cracked me up and there were a few places that was overly dramatic, but in the end it was a fun book with a happily beaver after that would put a smile on your face as you go to sleep.

Review: Fighting with the Infuriating Prince

Fighting with the Infuriating Prince Fighting with the Infuriating Prince by Elizabeth Lennox
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Fighting with the Infuriating Prince (War, Love, & Harmony Series, #1) by Elizabeth Lennox

I have enjoyed Miss Lennox's short romances before, but this one was quite disappointing.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

First off, the male protagonist, Prince Tasir, was not very romantic. He was more of a bully than a romantic hero. I completely understand the concept of dominating males and how they are romantic ( hello Gideon Cross), but Tasir was just downright rude, offensive and completely annoying. More often than not, it felt like she was being forced to have sex. He would have gotten some point if he had atleast changed something in his attitude at the end of the book, but nope. Nada.

I actually liked Princess Jalayla, she was a strong, fiery, independent woman with good morals and all for eradication of poverty in her country. But Miss Lennox completely ruined it by making her look like an trembling virgin who does his bidding in the blink of an eye.

And the end was the most disappointing. I would have overlooked everything else if not for the ending. Characters are meant to be imperfect.

But I expected much more to reluctance on her part and something redeemable on his. But it was all just rushed and was oven in like two pages and just abruptly pushed you to the second book.

Like I said it was not one of Miss Lennox's best novellas.

Review: Dark Lover

Dark Lover Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dark Lover

This Review will probably contain spoilers, Readers BEWARE!!

This is the first book I have read of J R Ward. And in my opinion it was a pretty good book.

This is a paranormal romance novel that brushes the erotic category, but not quite much. Its the first book of The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series, which is basically about 5 warrior vampires who fight against the 'lessers' who are the vampire-killing-soulless species and how they find their 'shellan (mates).

This book is about Wrath who is the blind, short-tempered vampire community king and Beth, a small-time reporter, who later comes to know she is a half-vampire and her father was one of the brothers of the brotherhood before he was disintegrated by a bomb and how they come to trust and fall in love.

It had all the right combinations of hot guys, murder, mystery, romance and some sexy time between the protagonists.

It had the hot vampire Wrath with attitude problems, the sexy half-vampire Beth with her sassy attitude, the annoying 'lessers' who take up too much unnecessary space in the book, and the brotherhood of mismatched warriors who are walking disasters individually, but are pretty good as a team. And how Wrath and Beth bond over her 'transition' from human to vampire

Awesome!!

The book has a lot of side stories which are pretty interesting and give more substance to the book. Miss Ward did a brilliant job in developing the characters, with their proper back-stories and gave a lot of depth to all her characters.

It was written with all of the characters POVs which proved to be very interesting and informative. Miss Ward covered all her bases.

The only thing I really found annoying in this book was that, there was too much scenes of how the 'lesser leader' was plotting the the total annihilation of the brotherhood. I mean, this stuff came in the way of some pretty heady scenes. (view spoiler)

Apart from this, the book was good, and it's totally worth a read.

Review: The Witness

The Witness The Witness by Nora Roberts
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Witness by Nora Roberts

CAUTION: Contains Spoilers

I would give this book an absolute 10, if that was possible. It was that amazing. It's one of those books that would make you reminiscent about it long into the night even after the satisfactory ending.

Nora Roberts, the author, is one of the best out there. I've read a few of her books and I love all of them. But this one is just special.

You just have to love Abigail, with her geeky, cautious intelligence and the dog named Bert.

And Brooks is just kickass. Accepted, I expected him to be a much more strong, alpha-male-ish character, but in the end, I had no regrets. He just balances her perfectly.

All the characters are very well built, with precise roles and substance.

If you are fan of romantic thrillers, then Nora Roberts is the best author for you...

Spoiler Alert:

This book is about Liz, an amazingly gifted, straight to Harvard 16 year old kinda girl with extraordinary IQ and photographic memory, living with her control-freak mother, goes into rebellion-teenager mode one very fine weekend. She changes her hair, goes shopping, clubbing, drinking and later into the night witnesses her friend's murder by the Russian Mafia.

She goes into witness protection program. But, the murderers want her dead and chase her and kill the agents taking care of her, forcing her to run.

Now twelve years later, we see Liz as Abigail, who lives the life of a nomad going from city to city, town to town, trying to keep a low profile everywhere. She poses as a freelance programmer and comes to the town of Ozarks.

Her mysterious persona and guarded gait, piques Police Chief Brooks interest. I mean, who doesn't like a girl who knows to handle many kinds of guns and has her dog trained to understand many languages?

With his refusal to leave her alone and after one too may pies, their interest in each other, soon turns into a passionate love affair. One leaves both of them breathless. Her logical brain shuts down as her heart rams with his and his need to protect her from whatever it is that hurts her makes him throw caution to the air.

Will Brooks be the one to ground her?

Will she give her carefully planned life for him? Will she ever get over that one night that completely changer her life?

This is one book of Nora Roberts you just can't miss.
